Life in London

While studying at SLCC, the rigours of study and student life can be tempered by enjoying the many aspects of the city of London. Because of the city's diversity and richness, there are hundreds of important sights and tourist attractions such as Tower Bridge, The Tower of London, Big Ben, Buckingham Palace, Westminster Abbey, Trafalgar Square, Piccadilly Circus, China Town, The London Eye, The Millennium Dome, Madame Tussaud's and St Paul's Cathedral.

Famous places to shop include Oxford Street, Covent Garden, Trocadero, Knightsbridge, Harrods and Selfridges. For those who love nature and the outdoors, there are many large areas of green parks and gardens offering fascinating panoramic vistas such as Regents Park, Hyde Park, Hampstead Heath, Primrose Hill, Richmond Park, Greenwich Park and Kew Gardens.

During Orientation Week, the college organises a special tour of the major tourist attractions in London including a lovely restaurant meal in Chinatown in London’s West End for those overseas students who are new to London.

Student Body

The college is very multi-cultural with students who, in recent years, have come from some 45 different nations including South Korea, Myanmar (Burma), India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Mauritius, Hungary, Czech Republic, the UK, Malta, Ethiopia, Somalia, Eritrea, Uganda, Kenya, Zambia, Tanzania, Malawi, Zimbabwe, South Africa, Angola, the Congo, Cameroon, Nigeria, Ghana, Ivory Coast, Sierra Leone, the Gambia, Jamaica, Trinidad, Guyana, Bolivia, Ecuador, Colombia, Canada and many more.

There is a very active Students Union and a Students Alumni Association.

Church Commitment

While London has a diverse multi-faith religious culture, which reflects the many ethnic groups in the United Kingdom, Christianity still holds a strong place. This is reflected by the fact that some of the largest charismatic churches in Europe can be found in London, coupled with an ever increasing number of both indigenous and ethnic church plants throughout the cosmopolitan area.

We are firm believers that to have a thorough training in Christian ministry or practical theology, it is crucial to be part of a Bible-believing church for the duration of your studies. Christian denominations are widely represented in London and you are free to join any of them.

We warmly welcome anyone who wishes to join one of the several branches of Jubilee International Church in and around Greater London (see: www.jubileechurch.org.uk), as these are churches that allow active participation of our college students. Otherwise we have a list of recommended churches within the locality.
